Who Was Khadijah (RA)?
Before Islam, Khadijah (RA) was already a remarkable woman — a successful and respected merchant in Makkah, known for her noble character, intelligence, and integrity. She was called “al-Tahirah,” the Pure One, for her dignity and honour in a society that often did not value women. It was her keen judgment of character that led her to notice the trustworthiness of Muhammad ﷺ, whom she employed and later married.
The First to Believe
When the Prophet ﷺ received the first revelation in the cave of Hira, he returned home shaken and afraid. It was Khadijah (RA) who comforted him, wrapped him in warmth, and reassured him with words history has never forgotten — reminding him of his good character and that Allah would never forsake him. And when he called her to Islam, she did not hesitate. She became the first human being to believe in the message — the first Muslim.
Her Unwavering Support
For the next years, as the Prophet ﷺ faced rejection, mockery, and persecution, Khadijah (RA) stood firmly beside him. She gave her wealth, her comfort, and her heart to the cause of Islam. The Prophet ﷺ never forgot her loyalty; years after her death, he still spoke of her with deep love and gratitude.
